Even though an age-old practice, Agroforestry has only become the subject of serious research and development efforts over the last decades. Because of the youth of the discipline, there is still an overall lack of people with the necessary training and skills to conduct agroforestry research and development activities.
Therefore, the need to incorporate recent and ongoing advances in agroforestry into training and education curricula and to develop the required training materials is a high priority. Since the courses in 1999 (but also before) a lot of efforts are undertaken by national partners in organizing training courses. Based on recommendations made in 1998 and 1999 by various partners, the year 2000 main efforts were be mainly devoted to the development of training material and the support of training courses organized by our partners.
