The World Agroforestry Centre is increasingly exploring the use of eLearning approaches and tools to reach its ever expanding learning audiences.

The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has an On-Line Learning Resources (OLR) website which provides quick and easy access to the agriculture and natural resources management learning materials of all CGIAR Centres and offers support to an international training community of practice.

This is linked to an open source Learning Management System (LMS) called Moodle that allows CGIAR Centres to develop online learning events. It also serves as a repository of Open Educational Resources which can be used by as a resource by those teaching the subjects.

Although the learning resources can be visited without access permission, several CGIAR courses offered under the learning management system will require an enrolment key and have password restricted access. A number of the courses online are offered in what is called a ‘blended learning’ format. This means that an online component is followed by a shorter, problem-solving learning event.

The Centre will increasingly offer online and blended learning events in the future now that advances in information and communications technology are becoming more accessible to learners worldwide.
