SEANAFE’s Teacher’s Guide on Markets for Agroforestry Tree Products (MAFTP): Curriculum Framework and Case Studies now has Indonesian and Vietnamese versions. The translation was part of SEANAFE’s aim to facilitate the teaching of MAFTP among its member universities and widen the use of the guide by other interested organizations for training purposes.

 The Indonesia Network for Agroforestry Education (INAFE), in collaboration with Lampung University (Unila) and the Southeast Asia Network for AgroforestryEducation (SEANAFE)-World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), conducted a National Dialogue on the Role of Agroforestry in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation in Indonesia on 6 November 2008 in Bogor, Indonesia. Thirty-five participants from universities, research institutions, NGOs, national and local government agencies attended the Dialogue.

Participants to SEANAFE’s “Student-Faculty Dialogue to Improve Forestry Education in Southeast Asia” recognized the need to enhance the regional perspective and multidisciplinary nature of forestry as a study program among universities in Southeast Asia. PAFERN and the National Agroforesters’ Association of the Philippines (NAAP) have been working towards the professionalization of agroforestry practice in the Philippines for the last three years. One of the Philippine legislators sponsored a Senate Bill No. 872 otherwise known as the Philippine Agroforestry Act, which calls for the professionalization of agroforestry in the Philippines. The said Bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Civil Service and Regulations for deliberation.

Sixteen (16) faculty members from 13 PAFERN member-institutions were convened in a writeshop on November 3-5, 2008 at the Aklan State University in Banga, Aklan. The writeshop aimed to develop agroforestry teaching materials in line with the implementation of the new Policy, Standards and Guidelines (PSG) for BS Agroforestry that was approved by the Commission on Higher Educatyion (CHED) for implementation effective SY 2007-2008.
