Improving land management across  the Lake Victoria basin

 

 

 
COLLABORATORS

TransVic works with several Collaborators to complement its work. Besides our key

collaborators, NALEP, the extension arm of Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), below are some of the key Collaborators in Kenya, their main activities and our common engagement.

 

 

Consortium for scaling up options for increasing farm productivity in Western

   Kenya (COSOFAP). COSOFAP brings together over 80 research and  development

   organisations in Western Kenya that work on poverty alleviation, land rehabilitation

   and improving farmer livelihoods.

 

  International Decade for the East African Lakes (IDEAL), is a network

   of limnologists and and ecologists based in North America, Europe and Africa who

   are concerned with the East African lakes.

 

 Lake Victoria Environmental Management Programme (LVEMP) , is

   concerned with management of Lake Victoria and its basin in Kenya, Tanzania and

   Uganda.TransVic overlaps with the catchment afforestation,land use and water

   quality components of LVEMP.

 

  Regional Land Management Unit of Sida (RELMA) ,TransVic has been

   working  more closely with RELMA , financed and co-hosted  research

   planning workshops for improved land management in the Lake Kyoga basin in

   Uganda and  the Tanzania portion of the Lake Victoria basin.

 

 ViAgroforestry , is involved in agroforestry extension work throughout the Lake

  Victoria basin. In October 2002 , the ViAgroforestry Director General and ICRAF

  Director General signed an MoU to support stronger collaboration in

  training, monitoring and evaluation and germplasm exchange.

 

Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) ;has been a long-term ICRAF

  partner.  KARI has a national scope  and mandate for agricultural research in

  Kenya through its regional research centres and field stations.

 

 

  Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) :We are working jointly with KEFRI

   to identify viable agroforestry options for drylands in the Nyando basin.

 

  National Environmental Management Authority- Kenya ( NEMA ): NEMA is

    the chief government agency responsible for environmental policy implementation

    throughout Kenya.

 

  Survey of Kenya (SoK) - digitising and vectorising maps for Western Kenya

    including producing maps for Western Kenya and capacity building

    for SoK staff.
