Improving land management across  the Lake Victoria basin

 

 

 
 

George Aike

George is working on a series of satellite base maps, as part of the production of an Environmental Baseline and GIS for the Lake Victoria Improved Management Program and Southwest Uganda GISD Project. 

Before joining the World Agroforestry Centre, George worked as a GIS / Land use Technician with WWF funded "Tarangire Manyara Conservation Project” and “Mount Meru Conservation Project” in Arusha,. He also worked as a GIS Research Assistant in the CERE/ARF project “Productivity Modeling of Livestock and Wildlife in the Semi-Arid Rangelands of Kenya - Case Study of Laikipia District Ranches.” Previously he worked as a Research Assistant with ICRAF/GTZ Project “Integration of Tree Crops into the Farming System Project in North Horr Division, Marsabit District-Kenya. He also served as a guest lecturer in the College of African Wildlife Management in Mweka, Tanzania where he taught Advanced Diploma and Postgraduate Diploma classes “Application of GIS and Remote Sensing in Conservation.”

George holds a B.Sc.in Environmental Studies from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. He trained in GIS and Remote Sensing at Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) Nairobi, Kenya.

Research interest: 
Application of GIS and Remote Sensing in Natural Resources Conservation.
