Improving land management across  the Lake Victoria basin

 

 

 
 

 

Dr.Place is the leader of land and people theme.He conducts research on policy issues and impact assessment, primarily in the eastern and southern Africa.His policy work has focused principally on property rights and their effects on tree management at farm and landscape levels. He is also working on local policy initiatives and collective action. He has undertaken several studies on adoption and diffusion processes of agroforestry systems and their impacts on profitability and human welfare.
 

Dr Place has a PhD degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin. He initially came to the World Agroforestry Centre on secondment from that university's Land Tenure Center where he conducted studies on the role of tenure on the adoption of agroforestry in Uganda, Burundi, Zambia and Malawi. Before joining the World Agroforestry Centre he was a consultant with the World Bank for three years where he was involved in agricultural research and policy analysis in Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, Madagascar and Mexico.
