Isaac Learamu

Isaac Learamu duties include recording data in the field identification of forage plants, simple analysis, processing of soil and plants samples in the lab and occasionally involved in coring in the lake Victoria.

Before joining ICRAF, he had an opportunity to work with scientific and development programmes for 22 years.

He has worked as a field assistant for MAB-FRG - Integrated Project on Arid Lands - IPAC (UNESCO) for 4 years.  During this period he  served as acting senior field assistant in charge of Nugronit field research station, and covered a wide range of activities including Livestock productivity studies and monitoring of Rangeland trials.

 

In 1983, he was employed by the development of Animal Production, University of Nairobi to conduct a survey of forage plants in Northern Kenya, which included: collection and preparation of plant samples, enquiries about eh use of plants for various purposes.

In 1984-1989, he worked as a research field assistant in the Nkare-Ndare small and large ruminant programme, which was jointly operated by German Agriculture Team (GAT) in the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock development and Dep. of Animal production, University of Nairobi in Isiolo district.  Thereafter he joined GTZ - German Technical Co-operation - Marsabit Development Programme (MDP) in a position of a public relation officer and later to a position of field officer in charge of Korr Community Service Centre covering a wide range of development activities in areas of community development sector Natural Resource Sector and livestock development sector all in farm of organizational, social and technical aspects within laisamis division of marsabit district finally involved with CRSP/ILRI conducting livestock and household surveys in log-logo location between 1999-2000 before joining ICRAF in Jan 2001 to date.
