Brent Swallow
|
A senior scientist, Dr Swallow
is responsible for strategic
planning of activities under the
Environmental Services Theme and
for ensuring the cohesion and
quality of research conducted by
the programme's scientists in
all of the regions and at the
Centre's headquarters.
He is a member of the executive
committee of the Systemwide
Programme on Property Rights and
Collective Action.
Dr Swallow has worked and lived
in Africa for much of his
career. After completing MSc
studies at the University of
Saskatchewan in Canada, he
conducted research at Virginia
Tech University for one year and
at the National University of
Lesotho for three years. While
in Lesotho he led a research
project on agricultural
marketing. Thereafter he
obtained a PhD degree from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison,
majoring in development
economics and resource
economics. Previously Dr Swallow
spent seven years as a research
scientist at the International
Livestock Research Institute.
While there he led research
conducted across the African
continent on the economic
impacts of animal disease
control and property rights.
