ANAFE
What
is ANAFE?
The African Network for Agroforestry Education—ANAFE—is a network
of 117 educational institutions in Africa whose objective is to
strengthen the teaching of multi-disciplinary approaches to land
management. The ANAFE Coordination Unit is hosted at the World Agroforestry
Centre headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. This provides a vantage for
network management, linkages with the research and development activities
of the Centre and its partners, and convenient communication facilities.
Administratively, the network is attached to the World Agroforestry
Centre. Day-to-day activities are supervised by a coordinator. The
Swedish International Development
Cooperation Agency (Sida) has provided financial support to
ANAFE since July 1991. Members contribute to the cost of managing
specific activities. ANAFE works closely with agroforestry research
initiatives in Africa, particularly through the Centre’s regional
research programmes.
Objectives
The network develops and supports activities
that:
- strengthen the capacity of educational
institutions to initiate and manage programmes with appropriate
agroforestry content;
- increase the number and expertise of
staff teaching agroforestry;
- coordinate education, research and extension
programmes to facilitate the flow of agroforestry knowledge and
skills to ultimate users; and
- enhance collaboration between institutions
for better utilization of human and other resources.
Membership
Members of ANAFE are education institutions within Africa teaching
any discipline related to land use and are interested in strengthening
the teaching of agroforestry or integrated natural resources management.
Membership is free and those wishing to join, should fill in the
Membership Application Form and send it to the ANAFE Coordination
Unit.
