Education Networks
Agroforestry is increasingly being recognized as an
important aspect on integrated natural resources management (INRM). This
constitutes a new challenge to training and education institutions that have
been used to strict disciplinary boundaries in their programmes. As the global
demand for capacity building in agroforestry and INRM exceeds by a large margin
what the World Agroforestry Centre alone can deliver, an effective and
sustainable way of delivering the knowledge we gather through research is to
work with national training and education institutions.
This is the background to the formation of two very
successful education networks the African Network for Agroforestry Education
(ANAFE) and Southeast Asian Network for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE). The
networks bring together educators in all aspects of agriculture and natural
resources management. Among other things, they coordinate activities and share
experiences geared at education policy changes, review of curricula, training of
trainers, developing educational materials, and linking with research and
extension. The networks are the World Agroforestry Centre's partners in the
implementation of capacity building efforts at all levels, from strengthening
researchers through graduate programmes to farmer training.
