Dr Sileshi G Weldesemayat

Acting Regional Coordinator – Southern Africa

Sileshi obtained a BSc degree in Biology in 1987, MSc degree in Agriculture in 1994 and a PhD degree in Ecology in 2001. He has over 20 years work experience which includes over 10 years of research in international organizations in Kenya (with ICIPE), Zambia and Malawi (with the World Agroforestry Centre) and 10 years teaching with Alemaya University, Ethiopia. His research focuses on production ecology with emphasis on plant and soil health and biodiversity. His main interest is linking plot-level patterns and processes to landscape and regional level ecosystem services through synthetic methods including meta-analyses and modelling. He has authored/co-authored over 90 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, 65 of which are in science citation indexed journals.
