What
Sweden is achieving with us
Sweden is one of the most important supporters of
the World Agroforestry Centre, and over the last fi
ve years has contributed in excess of USD 2 million
to its core activities and over USD 8.5 million to
specifi c projects. In recent years, Sweden has had
a major impact in the work of the Centre through support
for strengthening training and education in agroforestry
in Africa and Southeast Asia, improving land management
in the Lake Victoria Basin, agroforestry research
and development in Zambia, and research on agroforestry
pest and diseases in eastern and southern Africa.

What
Canada is achieving with us
Canada was the instigator and a key supporting founder
of the World Agroforestry Centre 25 years ago, and
has been a major supporter of its work ever since.
Over the last five years it has contributed almost
USD 2 million to the Centre’s core activities and
over USD 9.5 million to specific projects. In recent
years Canadian support has made a major contribution
to the work of the Centre. It has helped develop a
suite of adapted agroforestry technologies for southern
Africa, promoted the use of ‘live fences’ in the Sahel
to help farmers expand their dry season gardens and
incomes, and developed the use of ICTs to help previously
marginalized East African farmers access better technical
production information. Download

What
Spain is achieving with us
Spain is an active supporter of the World Agroforestry
Centre, and over the last five years has contributed
USD 75,000 to its core activities and in excess of
USD 1.3 million to specific projects. Spanish support
through the Agencia Española de Cooperación
Internacional (AECI) has made a major contribution
to agroforestry work in Latin America, Vietnam and
the Philippines. In the last few years this has included
enhancing farmer adoption of conservation farming,
agroforestry and the Landcare approach in the Philippines,
and promoting timber and fruit trees for income generation
and soil erosion control in Vietnam. Download

What
Italy is achieving with us
Italy is a new and valued supporter of the World
Agroforestry Centre, and over the last two years
has contributed over USD 350,000 to specific projects.
This Italian support has made a major contribution
to the work of the Centre particularly in East and
Central Africa by helping to develop grassroots
Landcare groups.

What
Germany is achieving with us
Germany has been a major supporter of the World Agroforestry
Centre since the Centre began 25 years ago, and over
the last five years has contributed almost USD 1 million
to our core activities and USD 1.5 million to specific
projects. In recent years German support has made
a major contribution to the work of the Centre particularly
in southern Africa. This has resulted in the development
of whole new industries based on indigenous fruit
tree species, with significant impacts on rural incomes
and nutrition. It has also cemented our relationships
with the universities of Hannover and Kassel, whose
staff and students have been actively involved in

What
Japan is achieving with us
The Government of Japan is an active supporter of
the World Agroforestry Centre. Over the last five
years Japan has contributed over USD2.7 million to
the core activities of the Centre and almost three
quarters of a million dollars to specific projects.
This support has made a major contribution to agroforestry
work in Africa and South East Asia in areas such as
tree genetic resources, poverty and natural resource
problem identifi cation and natural resource policy
development.

What
the Netherlands is achieving with us
The Netherlands has been among the most active and
important supporters of the World Agroforestry Centre
since the Centre began 25 years ago. Its contribution
over the last five years—over USD 2.9 million for
core activities and almost USD 5.3 million for specific
projects—has been one of our largest. The Netherlands
government has made a major contribution to the work
of the Centre via the Alternatives to Slash-and-Burn
Programme, the African Highlands Ecoregional Initiative
and through strengthening training and education in
agroforestry. Download

What
Norway is achieving with us
Norway has been an active long-term supporter of the
World Agroforestry Centre, first through assistance
for the implementation of the ‘Management of natural
resources programme in Tanzania’ and the Alternatives
to Slash-and-Burn Programme and now through the African
Highlands Ecoregional Programme’s (AHI) project ‘Combating
soil nutrient depletion in the Ethiopian highlands’.
Over the last five years Norway has contributed just
over USD 1 million to our core activities and almost
USD 2.8 million to specific projects. Download
