Louis Verchot (PhD)
Dr. Verchot is a senior ecologist and lead Scientist for the Soil Fertility and Climate Change work at ICRAF. Dr. Verchot has a B.S. in forest management from Rutgers University, an M.S. in silviculture from the State University of New York and a Ph. D. in forest soils from North Carolina State University. He spent 7 years in West Africa working as a technical advisor to several rural development projects. Dr. Verchot has conducted research in the area of global environmental change in a variety of ecosystems in USA, Brazil, Kenya and Indonesia. In Brazil, he was awarded a distinguished postdoctoral fellowship in climate change from the U.S. Department of Energy. His prime expertise is in the nutrient cycles of nitrogen and carbon. Dr. Verchot has coauthored 21 peer reviewed scientific papers, several book chapters and technical reports. In addition to his work in research, Dr. Verchot participates frequently in expert workshops aimed at bringing the results of scientific research to policy makers.
Serigne Kandji (PhD)
Dr. Kandji is an associate scientist, specialised in tropical ecology. He obtained an Agricultural Engineer's Degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Agriculture (ENSA) in Thiès, Sénégal and a PhD in tropical ecology from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Kandji was a recipient of an ARPPIS (African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Science) fellowship, co-sponsored by the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) and ICRAF; he has worked mainly in the agroforestry systems of western Kenya, where he has conducted research on the impacts of the improved fallow technology on the chemical, physical and biological properties of soils. In addition to writing scientific papers, Dr Kandji contributes to bringing the results of scientific research to the wider community by participating in various fora.
Laure Dutaur (PhD)
Dr. Dutaur is a climate change specialist and consultant at ICRAF. She holds an Engineer's Degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie and PhD from the Institut National Polytechnique, both in Toulouse, France. She has a strong expertise in analytical chemistry and has conducted research on various aspects of climate change in France, Italy, Gabon and Kenya. The author (co-author) of 12 scientific publications and 15 communications, Dr. Dutaur has taken part in many conferences and other scientific fora the aim of which has been to spread the scientific information.
