Kibwezi Farmers join Malawi and Zambia in Setting Up an Evergreen Agriculture Kibwezi farmers in Eastern province Kenya have joined Malawi and Zambia in setting up an Evergreen Agriculture. A group of 163 farmers from Masongaleni in Kibwezi who had earlier received fertilizer tree seeds of Tephrosia candida, Gliricidia sepium and Faidherbia albida from the World Agroforestry Centre turned up to join the researchers in setting up a Conservation Agriculture with Trees (CAWT) demonstration plot in one of the local farms where the three species were intercropped with maize. 10 farmers are expected to proceed in setting up similar demonstration plots while the rest will experiment in their farms with the seedlings they had received to determine the important benefits of the fertilizer trees in increased production. The occasion was presided by the area Councilor, the Chief and the area crop officer from the Ministry of Agriculture.
