Douglas Nyolei

Mr. Nyolei is a Kenyan citizen with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Biosystems Engineering obtained from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He is also a holder of a Certificate in advanced GIS and remote sensing from JICA Kenya.

Douglas holds the position of GIS Analyst for the Water Management Unit at the World Agroforestry Centre. He has considerable experience in water harvesting and GIS & Remote sensing (GIS/RS) for natural resource management, with special interest in water engineering and Hydrology for sustainable development and decision support systems. His skills are more pronounced in spatial hydrology and in the design of water harvesting infrastructure.

Previously, Mr. Nyolei was the GIS/RS analyst for the Land-Husbandry, Water Harvesting and Hillside Irrigation (LWH) project in Rwanda. Prior to this he was a GIS consultant at the water management Unit of ICRAF where he actively played a role in the development of Rainwater harvesting (RWH) Master Plan for the government of Rwanda. He was also a consultant with the Green belt movement (GBM) on the assessment of the water harvesting potential of Mwala and Yatta districts for water harvesting. Mr. Nyolei has had technical exposure in Rwanda, Burundi and his home country Kenya.

His main responsibilities are enumerated below:

  • Perform an integrated analysis and presentation of geographic and non-geographic data with GIS, remote sensing and statistical analysis products.
  • Carry out engineering related activities for the water management Unit.
  • Compile and maintain geographic tabular data and metadata.
  • Liaise with other East Africa region experts in the production of plan maps and support fieldwork activities related to the region.
