The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
The newly minted Community Facilitators for the DryDev, and the EC/IFAD Land Restoration Project, met for inductions to support the roll out of planned comparison trials (PCs) in the Kenya project sites. The facilitators, who are drawn from Mwala and Yata in Machakos, Mtito Andei and Kalawa in Makueni, and Mwingi Central and Lower Yata in Kitui counties will be acting as a bridge to learning priorities generated by communities.
In Machakos from 24 to 25 August 2016, Sammy Carsan, Lydia Wafula, John Nyaga and Ake Mamo of the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF), briefed the facilitators about Community Action Plans (CAP); the options by context approach; the concept of co-learning and planned comparisons and the role of Communities of Practice in supporting the co-learning approach. The facilitators will be undergoing continuous training as they facilitate co-learning between farmers, researchers and development partners in the area.
