Increasing farmers' capacity in climate change mitigation and adaptation: lessons from environmental service reward schemes in Asia and Africa
The latest issue of The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) newsletter, Making a difference in Asia and the Pacific focuses on adaptation to climate change. Examples of IFAD's work are presented, including two research projects on environmental services coordinated by the World Agroforestry Centre: Rewarding Upland Poor for Environmental Services in Asia (RUPES) and Pro-poor Rewards for Environmental Services in Africa (PRESA).
In the article, Centre scientists Beria Leimona, Meine van Noordwijk and Thomas Yatich share their work on establishing a series of action research sites to test rewards for environmental services schemes that can benefit rural livelihoods, reduce poverty and improve the environment.
