WaNuLCAS 3rd Party Tools

We have developed various 3rd party tools to support users of WaNuLCAS.

1. Tree Parameterisation

Tree parameterisation is developed to help users in estimating tree specific parameters for WaNuLCAS. The estimation is based on quick survey methods and a fractal branching model (Functional Branch Analysis = FBA).

The Functional Branch Analysis (FBA) scheme derives the basic rules for reconstructing trees. The underlying fractal (or self-repeating) branching models are essentially based on assumptions of ‘self-similarity’ across scales: this means that a picture of a branching point looks the same, whether it is taken from the first or last branching point of a tree, relative to the diameter of the branches. Fractal branching models provide a transparent scheme for deriving tree-specific scaling rules on the basis of easily observable, non-destructive methods. Aboveground this means that we can use stem diameter (DBH) to predict the size of the tree (biomass of stem, branches and leaves; cumulative litterfall). Belowground we can use proximal root diameters to predict root biomass and root length.

VBranch Visualize is a tool to visualize branching patterns generated or collected using this FBA rules Check this out.

2. Crop Parameterisation

We also developed another excel file to estimate some of the the crop specific parameters. This is based on the 'potential production' estimates of the WOFOST model.

3. Tree - Crop Growth Validation

A simplified version of WaNULCAS was built to validate the tree and crop parameterisation. This is basically modeling tree and crop growth at its potential level, without limitations of water and nutrients. Currently, only for tree growth is available. For crop growth, will be available soon.

4. Plant growth visualization

A tool to help users viewing dynamically plant growth and water/nutrient changes during simulation is also available.

5. Stand Alone Rubber Model

This is a stand alone Rubber model. In WaNuLCAS model, this is part of the Tree Module.

6. Plant Basic Model

This is a simple plant model to ease user to start to understand the bigger WaNuLCAS model.

7. Database

An access database is built to compile all WaNuLCAS input parameters and its definitions (Appendix 7 of Manual). At the moment, it is in English, Bahasa Indonesia and Portuguese. We also listed output parameters (Appendix 4 of Manual) and other useful parameters - Appendix 8 (still under construction). Database of parameter values for various tree and crop types also available.
