| David has over 20 years of diverse experience in the non-profit, government, and academic sectors integrating habitat conservation, sustainable human development, field research, and education/extension. He draws on five-plus years of field experience in rural and remote parts of Kenya, including teaching sciences and developing facilities at a community high school, and directing integrated biodiversity research/conservation projects for the National Museums of Kenya with collaborating NGOs. David has programmatic experience in conservation research and community development in Madagascar and in natural resource management around the world with the US Agency for International Development and the US Forestry Service. David also provided global trend analysis for the US Congress' Office of Technology Assessment toward policy reports on sustainable international development and agriculture (published 1993 and 1994, respectively). As Program Director at Earthwatch Institute for eight recent years, David nurtured the development of 100 long-term field projects in 26 countries across six continents and oversaw a diverse research program spanning the terrestrial life sciences. David joined the International Landcare Steering Committee following a US tour of Landcare in Queensland and the South African 'Decade of Landcare' conference in September 2004. He has worked with EcoLogic Development Fund, an NGO that successfully implements a Landcare approach in Latin America since early 2004 and has led efforts to promote Landcare in Jamaica through a partnership between EcoLogic and the US Forest Service. Volunteerism, public engagement, and experiential learning have been important elements of many programs throughout David's career. He has a BS in Earth and Space Sciences from State University Of New York/Stony Brook and a Masters in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University. |
