World Agroforestry in East and Central Asia (ECA) coordinates the development of mountain agroforestry systems and demonstrates large-scale agroforestry research and training at the Honghe Innovation Centre for Mountain Futures. Other key activities include major projects on using mushrooms and fungi for soil health, income and nutrition, agrarian shelterbelt systems in Central Asia, and using traditional ‘ecological calendars’ to plan agricultural activities in the face of climate change.

In this region, ICRAF operates through a unique partnership with the Centre for Mountain Futures (CMF), a joint laboratory with Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and also through a joint laboratory on Agroforestry and Sustainable Animal Husbandry with the Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing.

The regional office is based in Kunming, China.
