Home / West & Central Africa

ICRAF’s West and Central Africa (WCA) Regional Office works to improve food security and to address the highly unique environmental challenges in the area, particularly around arid and semi-arid lands in the Sahel and tropical regions in the Congo Basin. Key activities include scaling up of participatory tree domestication, promoting farmer-managed natural regeneration (FMNR), scaling up of agroforestry technologies through rural resource centres (RRCs), rehabilitation of tree crop landscapes and development of tree-based value chains.

The region covers an area of approximately 1,200 million hectares, spanning 21 countries with a population of over 440 million (World Bank, 2013). It includes arid, semi-arid, sub-humid and humid ecological zones.

The regional office is based in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
