TUL-SEA training for Rapid Hydrological Appraisal (RHA), Rapid Carbon Stock Appraisal (RaCSA) and Participatory Landscape Assessment (PaLA) in Vietnam was conducted from 21-26 November 2008. After the training, 10 site proposal questionnaires for tools application in the field were submitted. These proposals were reviewed on technical merit and prioritised for funding. As a result, five promising sites in four provinces were supported to develop full plans for site implementation in 2009.
In April 2009, partnership agreements between ICRAF and five institutions in Vietnam were signed:
- Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (TUAF) for RaCSA in the Tan Thai commune, Dai Tu District, Thai Nguyen Province and RHA/PaLA in Coc Lake in Thai Nguyen Province.
- Forest Science Technology Application Research Centre (FSTARC) for RaCSA in the Lam Son commune, Luong Son District, Hoa Binh Province.
- Bach Ma National Park (BMNP) for RaCSA.
- Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry (HUAF) for RHA and PaLA in the Leng River Watershed, Ba Be District, Bac Kan Province, Vietnam.
- Research Centre for Forest Ecology and Environment (RCFEE) for RHA in the Binh Thanh commune, Cao Phong District, Hoa Binh Province.
The tools implementation is expected to be finalised by October 2009 and the experiences will be valuable as lessons for local institutions.
