Country networks conduct special projects for 2008

SEANAFE recently approved and signed contracts with its country networks to implement their respective special projects for 2008. The special projects are part of SEANAFE’s budget reallocation which was approved by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) in June 2008.

The special projects per country network are as follows:

Indonesian Network for Agroforestry Education (INAFE)

  • Distance education program on teaching selected agroforestry courses among three INAFE member-institutions

Lao Network for Agroforestry Education (LaoNAFE)

  • Training on research methodology for lecturers of the LaoNAFE member-institution
  • Revision and reproduction of agroforestry teaching manual for the BS and diploma levels for the LaoNAFE member-institutions

Philippine Agroforestry Education and Research Network (PAFERN)

  • Characterization and documentation of different agroforestry models in the Philippines
  • Teaching materials development in agroforestry

Vietnam Network for Agroforestry Education (VNAFE)

  • English translation of the documented materials on 7 most commonly practiced agroforestry models in three ecological zones in Vietnam
  • Carbon dioxide sequestration potentials of agroforestry models in the central highlands of Vietnam

The Thai Network for Agroforestry Education (ThaiNAFE), meanwhile, has yet to submit their proposals for the implementation of a national agroforestry congress and a faculty exchange and students’ study tour program.

These special projects are meant to address the institutional development needs of the networks’ member-institutions and stakeholders. At the same time, they are aimed at integrating some of the current global environmental concerns (e.g., climate change, payment for environmental services, etc.) in agroforestry education.

The outputs and experiences gained from these special projects are expected to improve the agroforestry teaching, research, and extension initiatives of SEANAFE member-countries and the region in general.
