16th SEANAFE Board Meeting Highlights
The SEANAFE Board came up with major decisions and matters for action during its 16th meeting on 19-21 August 2008 in Jakarta, Indonesia on sustaining the operation of the network.
Among the major decisions made included the following:
- Election of Dr. Vo Dai Hai, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam’s Forest Research Institute, as new member of the SEANAFE Board from September 2008 to August 2010.
- Registration of SEANAFE as international nongovernmental organization in the Philippines by December 2008
- Acceptance of the concept note for SEANAFE Phase 3 implementation after 2009
- Installation of the Malaysian Network for Agroforestry Education (MNAFE) in February 2009
- Continuance of the SEANAFE newsletter beyond 2009 through e-publication
- Development of inter country network research project proposals for fund generation.
- Acceptance of 2 Vietnamese students as SEANAFE MS Research Fellowship (Batch 2) grantees
On the other hand, the matters needing action from the SEANAFE Board are as follows:
- Development of the full proposal for SEANAFE Phase 3 implementation by December 2008
- Compliance with the preliminary requirements for the registration of SEANAFE as INGO in the Philippines by mid October 2008
- Circulation of the first draft of the SEANAFE Conference proceedings to board members for comments and suggestions and produce a policy paper out it if possible by November 2008
- Completion of the survey on agroforestry education profiles of member institutions by end of October 2008
- Completion of the selection of MS Research Fellowship grantees from Indonesia, Laos, Philippines and Thailand by end of September 2008
- Implementation of mainstreaming activities of “Markets for Agroforestry Tree Products” Project outputs in Laos and Thailand until end of December 2008
- Finalization of SEANAFE Linkage Map by mid October 2008
- Finalization of the design for the Regional Training Course on Sustainable Development of Rural Upand Communities by November 2008
- Submission of abstracts from member institutions for the 2nd World Agroforestry Congress
- Organization of meetings with heads of member institutions of ThaiNAFE and VNAFE to formalize their commitment of support to the networks until November 2008
The meeting was also highlighted by the a) presentation of updates on SEANAFE projects by Jess Fernandez, SEANAFE Technical Adviser, and country network accomplishments from March-July 2008 by the country network coordinators; b) orientation on ICRAF’s Global Research Projects by Meine van Noordwijk, ICRAF-SEA Regional Director; c) orientation on Global Forest Information Service (GFIS) by Ho Sang Kang, GFIS Coordinator for Asia and Russia; and d) presentation of updates on ICRAF financial reporting procedures for project collaborators by Voni Ardiani, ICRAF-SEA Accountant.
