As project officer and research assistant Hoan is involved in a diverse range of activities from data collection to the dissemination of findings. Collaborating with local, national and international stakeholders is key to the success of agroforestry research in Vietnam. For this reason, building and maintaining relationships with partners forms a central part of his work.
Hoan joined ICRAF in 2009, after working for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and holds a Master of Environmental Science and Engineering. ICRAF fits him well as its action research approach allows him to see the real impact of science in the lives of poor communities. His affinity with agroforestry stems from his belief in its potential to address climate change - an issue he is very passionate about. In agroforestry he sees the beauty of a system that considers both mitigation and adaptation and therefore impacts on local, national and global scales.
Hoan particularly enjoys the team dynamic at ICRAF and has appreciated having the opportunity to learn planning and strategic thinking skills and work alongside his supervisor Minh Ha Hoang.
