The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
- Post-Doctoral Fellow (Gender)
Farhat is a development sociologist by academic training, with specialization in natural resource management and gender issues. Presently she is a Post-Doctoral Fellow (Gender) at World Agroforestry (ICRAF) in Ha Noi, Vietnam. At ICRAF, she is involved in various projects, as gender is a cross-cutting theme. However, she is leading gender norm study in the North-West Vietnam---to study ethnic minorities, in context of gender and agroforestry. Apart from doing research on gender, agroforestry and climate change, she is also a part of the team responsible for giving gender related trainings in ICRAF for doing research in South-Asia, South-East Asia, Africa and Latin America. Prior joining to ICRAF, she worked with IWMI (International Water Management Institute), in projects on Bangladesh and West Bengal, India specifically.
Farhat has a PhD in Development Studies (ZEF, Center for Development Research, University of Bonn, Germany), Masters and M.Phil in Sociology (Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India), and BA in Sociology (Hindu College, University of Delhi, India). She has been awarded various prestigious scholarships and awards such as Endeavour, DAAD and Felix. Farhat has also had a stint at the Watson Institute, Brown University, USA; Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, Brighton, UK; United Nations University–Bonn; Humboldt University, Berlin; University of Rottenburg; Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (ITT) of the Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany, all in a capacity of a visiting scholar.
