ICRAF and CDE are jointly organising an Africa Herbal Antimalaria Meeting from March 20th - 22nd 2006. The purpose of this meeting is to encourage greater collaborative research and development in this field and to facilitate investment in the cultivation, processing, testing, manufacturing and distribution of safe and efficacious herbal antimalarials.

There are a considerable number of private and public initiatives in Africa looking at new approaches to malaria, many involving the production and processing of Artemisia as well as other related products. Co-ordination of these efforts is of the utmost importance to get maximum effect.

The schedule will include such topics as

• Standards and specifications (GAP/GMP),
• Marketing and marketing strategies,
• Market size – demand, supply and pricing,
• Sourcing of raw material – quality, quantity and consistency,
• Technology transfer,
• Finance and investment – current and future

The meeting will be held at the ICRAF conference centre in Nairobi.
