Kapchorwa Landcare has been leveraging on community based organizations (CBOs) activities such as the Kapchorwa District Landcare Chapter (KADLACC) to reduce land degradation in the landscapes.

EVOLUTION OF LANDCARE IN UGANDA

Landcare in Uganda has evolved in various phases as described below:

2001-2003-AGILE

The main aim was to test and scale up Landcare through collective action. AGILE is an implementation concept for Landcare in Eastern Africa. Key high lights of this phase include:

2003—2008- Partnerships and Promotion of Land care

The aim was to foster collective action to enhance the capacity of institutions in addressing land degradation through Landcare. Key high lights of this phase include:

2009 to date: Scaling of SLM

The aim was to catalyze landscape level adoption of sustainable land management innovations and integrating livelihoods and conservation. Success stories from Uganda are being applied in other countries to enhance the adoption of the approach in other African countries.
