Training of Trainers (TOT) is a process that gives new trainers the background knowledge and skills to provide training and technical assistance to fellow colleagues. The Capacity Development Unit (CDU) at World Agroforestry has designed a Training of Trainers workshop for its staff, focusing not only on facilitation and communication skills as trainers, but also on building understanding about the principles of andragogy (how adults learn), how to carry out training needs assessments, how to design and implement training, and how to evaluate training outcomes, while taking into consideration the audience, knowledge and attitudes.
TOT is designed to produce trainers who, upon completion of the course, are able to:
- Create a cadre of effective trainers at ICRAF who can deploy advanced andragogy techniques in delivering learning interventions
- Equip ICRAF Regional and Country Offices/Priority Research Themes/Research Support Units with staff who can conduct and facilitate training sessions, as well as provide support and advice to scientists on how to organize effective training workshops
- Contribute to ensuring high quality capacity development at ICRAF.
