The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
ICRAF has been implementing agroforestry projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2006. Project sites included Bas-Congo, Bandundu, Equateur and Tshopo. The organization has also partnered with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to improve livelihoods of vulnerable households in South Kivu and Tanganyika through the dissemination of agroforestry-based land improvement and rehabilitation practices, as well as the promotion of multipurpose trees for nutrition and income.
