Guatemala has now signed up to the Mesoamérica Without Hunger agreement, committing to tackle the most complex problems that affect food security through international cooperation.

In Guatemala, efforts under the agreement will focus on building resilience to climate change through agroforestry systems, value chains for native crops and the promotion of ecotourism, reports an article on the Zero Hunger Challenge blog.

Mesoamérica Without Hunger is a south-south agreement which aims to eradicate hunger in all the countries of Central America, the Dominican Republic and Colombia. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is coordinating the 5 year (2015-2019) agreement with funding of $15 million from the Mexican Agency of International Cooperation, AMEXCID in cooperation with ministries of agriculture in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

“In Guatemala, Mesoamérica Without Hunger will enhance political and institutional frameworks effective to achieve food security, strengthening the government bodies contributions to improve the livelihood and resilience of family agriculture,” says the article.
