The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
'Forests for Food Security and Nutrition’ is the theme of the 2013 volume of Unasylva published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Among the articles in the volume is an analysis by scientists from the World Agroforestry Centre on the role of agroforestry in food security and nutrition. It looks at how agroforestry can provide a variety of local, national and global benefits including food, fuel, fodder, fertilizer, and how careful integration is essential if agroforestry is to have maximum benefit for food and nutritional security in developing countries.
The articles in the volume are largely drawn from the International Conference on Forests for Food Security and Nutrition hosted by FAO with the aim of addressing the role of forests and trees outside forests in food security and nutrition. The articlesy stress the need to approach food security inter-sectorally and at the landscape scale.
Included in the volume is a summary and recommendations from the conference.
