The Resilience 2014 conference is hoping to encourage debate on the transformation, adaptation and development of societies in the face of change.

The website of CIRAD (the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development) reports that the conference will bring together the worlds of academia, development, science and the arts from 5 to 8 May in Montpellier, France.

“The resilience of a social and ecological system (SES) refers to the way in which societies and their environment adapt or change in response to climate, economic and social change, including financial and food crises,” says the article.

The conference will explore a range of questions around SES, including how SES can adapt, transform without causing poverty traps and what role knowledge can play in this process.

Among the many off-site sessions is one on ‘Agroforestry, agro-biodiversity and ecosystem services’. This will bring together researchers and stakeholders from all over the world and local partners, to share their knowledge and perspective.
