The imminent food security crisis in the Asia Pacific region will be the focus of a summit to be attended by representatives from over 300 governments, UN and intergovernmental agencies, NGOs, development banks, research institutes and private sector companies.

The second AIDF Food Security Summit will be held from 8 to 9 October 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia with “robust debate and frank information sharing” expected among participants.

In the Asia Pacific region, 700 million people still live in abject poverty, despite recent economic expansion. The increasing global population has major implications for development, most importantly access to food and water.

The summit aims to lead to innovative solutions and best practice to tackle the problems surrounding food insecurity in Asia and the Pacific. It will provide a platform for the formation of strategic partnerships and collaborations.

The summit is being supported by a wide range of organizations, including the World Agroforestry Centre.
