The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR and World Agroforestry (ICRAF) joined forces in 2019, leveraging a combined 65 years’ experience in research on the role of forests and trees in solving critical global challenges.
The Forests4Future (F4F) project is a 2-year project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via GIZ and implemented by Centre for International Forestry Research-World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) in the Indénié Region.
The project aims to restore deforested and degraded landscapes in cocoa-growing areas characterized by degraded soils and biodiversity erosion. On the other hand, it aims to develop a sustainable wood energy supply system by reducing food insecurity and improving the living conditions of producers in Koitienkro and Apprompronou.
The project revolves around 6 main axes including:
- Awareness raising on agroforestry, forest code, mapping of producers’ plots
- Production and distribution of agroforestry species and fast-growing species
- Restoration/afforestation of degraded areas by diversified, profitable and resilient agroforestry systems
- Production and distribution of wood energy
- Diversification of producers' incomes and reduction of food insecurity
- Monitoring, evaluation, and communication
Expected results
- 400 hectares of deforested cocoa landscapes restored with trees of high socio-economic and environmental value
- 100 hectares of farmer plots covered by fast-growing legumes to produce wood energy
- 500 producers benefit from the socio-economic and environmental benefits of the project
- 200 young people and women are involved in activities developed around the value chain of wood and non-wood forest products
- A reduction of at least 5% in the rate of food insecurity in targeted areas
